Student Anniversary – Environmental Engineering Faculty Student Volunteer Team

The University of Civil Engineering not only teaches students knowledge but also provides opportunities to enhance soft skills, where we can make new friendships, create joyful memories, and sometimes even form a new 'family'.

Upon arriving at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, you've undoubtedly heard of the Environmental Engineering Student Volunteer Team. This is a large and crucial force in every event of the faculty and the university. From welcoming new students and organizing the K-12 orientation to graduation ceremonies; or charitable activities like "Warm Winter" and "Green Summer"... More than just a group, the team is like a family, a place where older students guide and support younger students, a place of comforting embraces and warm voices when you're feeling down in a foreign land far from home... countless memories need to be experienced firsthand to truly appreciate the sweetness and warmth, like a warm milk on a cold winter's day.

Students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, though technically inclined, rarely express themselves poetically, but sometimes their simple, heartfelt emotions stir the heart. In their final year, when everyone is immersed in projects, striving to complete all their credits, life feels more hectic as they rush to graduate on time. But it's also a time when emotions surge, knowing that only a few months remain before we can be with our teachers, friends, and close companions of the past five years. Because of this, we sometimes become time travelers, returning to the past, rewinding every frame of our memories.

Recently, the communications team of the Faculty of Computer Science was surprised to receive a letter from Thu Uyên – Head of Logistics (and Treasurer) of the K63 Student Volunteer Team of the Faculty. It was a recollection and a reflection of Thu Uyên's feelings about the days spent together with her 'little family'.

"To all our dear brothers and sisters, dear friends, and all the younger members who have joined or will soon join our family."

When a friend asked me, "What's so fun about joining the student volunteer team?", I couldn't answer right away. Then I spent the whole evening thinking about it, turned on my computer, listened to some music, and then memories just started flooding back.

I had known about the team for a long time, but it wasn't until the end of my first year that I registered to join the Environmental Engineering Faculty's Student Volunteer Team.

Like everyone else, I want to change and improve myself to become more confident. I also want to hone my communication skills and gain new experiences, getting to know more people. To be honest, I find it very difficult to strike up conversations. In the beginning, even after joining the team, it took me about 3 months to be able to talk and get used to the new environment.

And over time, with my determination to change myself, I've been with the team for two and a half years now. It's safe to say the team is like my second family.

12th Birthday of the Environmental Engineering Faculty's Student Volunteers

I've had the opportunity to experience and participate in many different programs. And each activity and program has brought me a lot of emotions.

"Colors of the Environment" Program – 2020

The team organizes many different volunteer activities. Executing a program is truly not easy. It requires a lot of effort from everyone in the team, from planning the program and organizing outreach to fundraising to cover the costs. Each program means that team members have to work hard and be busy setting up for a whole month. During the day, they go to school or work. In the evening, they dedicate time to fundraising through various activities. But I'm sure that I, like everyone else, feel happy, joyful, and optimistic. Everyone is positive about the volunteer activities because they are very meaningful. Everyone gets to work together, strive together for a common goal, and experience things they've never experienced before. The team brings with it the energy of youth, the fervor of young people, always giving their all.

"Warm Winter" Volunteer Program – 2019

A little secret: after each program, the members would tease each other, saying, "Our skin has really gotten thicker." I got to interact with many different people and realized how much I've changed. I'm more confident, communicate better, express myself more, and learn a lot. There are some activities you'd never experience if you didn't participate in the Volunteer program, like sitting in a circle in the schoolyard, singing the timeless songs of the band Bức Tường. If I hadn't joined the team, I wouldn't have heard and learned so many of Bức Tường's songs. Then there were the evenings staying at school to practice for the school's performances, making decorations, dancing, and learning group flash mobs... it was really fun. There are so many other activities from the school, faculty, and volunteer committee; if I listed them all, it would probably take until tomorrow morning.

A picnic at the foot of Vinh Tuy Bridge.

Besides the team's major volunteer programs, there are certainly extracurricular activities that help everyone in the team become closer and more familiar with each other, such as traveling, picnicking, having tea at the canteen, etc. Eating together... sharing thoughts to understand each other better, and this happens almost every week.

Extracurricular activities for K65

Since joining the Student Volunteer Team, I feel that student life is no longer as boring as it was in my first year. It's not just about going to class and back to the dorm; now I have more seniors and friends, and more activities to participate in. Everyone in the team has their own personality, but we all appreciate teamwork, fun, responsibility, and dedication. After more than two years with the team, I've realized that not everyone can stay and be committed to the team for the long term. This is due to various factors, such as individual personalities and the ability to adapt to a group environment. Personally, I feel very comfortable and happy participating in the team.

2020 Admissions Counseling

There are many other interesting things, and I think everyone who participates will experience them much more clearly. And another special thing is the feeling after wearing the volunteer shirt. Whether you feel happy, excited, and learn something while joining the team depends on you. No matter what, when you join the team, give it your all, try your best, and you will receive more than you give.
