Introduction to the Faculty and Training Programs
The Faculty of Environmental Engineering is one of ten faculties offering specialized/major programs at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. Along with the history and development of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the basic majors/specializations (Water Supply and Drainage, and Heating and Ventilation) of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering today were formed from the early days of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering's establishment in 1966. In 1971, the departments of Water Supply and Drainage and Heating and Ventilation combined with the Department of Building Materials to form the Faculty of Building Materials and Sanitary Engineering.
In 1989, facing the country's need for reform and the necessity of training a large number of engineers, masters, and doctoral graduates in the environmental field, the Water Supply and Drainage and Heating and Ventilation Department separated from the Faculty of Building Materials and Sanitary Engineering to establish the Faculty of Environmental Engineering. This was the first Faculty of Environmental Engineering in the system of technical universities in Vietnam, comprising three departments:
- Water supply and drainage
- Microclimate
- Thermal Engineering (now the Energy and Environment Expert Group)
In 2001, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering established the Department of Environmental Technology and Management and a new training program: Urban and Industrial Environment (later transformed into Environmental Engineering Technology and is now Environmental Engineering).
Over 70 years of training and nearly 40 years since its establishment, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering has continuously developed, becoming a strong unit of the university in training various disciplines/specializations at all levels from undergraduate to master's and doctoral degrees, and conducting scientific research in the fields of environmental infrastructure and engineering, environmental science and management, sustainable development, green growth and circular economy, sustainable smart cities, energy saving and efficiency, low-emission buildings, net-zero buildings… serving the industrialization and modernization of the country. Many alumni of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering hold important positions in Party and government leadership agencies from the central to local levels, in economic groups, corporations, companies, and organizations…
