Introduction to the facilities of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering

The Faculty of Environmental Engineering – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering currently boasts a relatively comprehensive system of facilities and laboratories, located on the 7th floor of the Laboratory Building , meeting the requirements for training, scientific research, and providing scientific and technological services in the environmental field. The Faculty's laboratory system includes specialized and interdisciplinary laboratories serving professional groups such as Microclimate , Water Supply and Drainage , Environmental Technology and Management , Energy and Environment , along with shared laboratories for the Faculty.

Typical laboratory equipment system of the Department

1. Field and laboratory measurement and analysis equipment group

  • Benchtop and handheld pH meters
  • Salinity, conductivity, and turbidity meter
  • Dissolved oxygen (DO) meter
  • Colorimeter and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer
  • Automatic titrator

These devices enable the analysis of basic and advanced environmental parameters, serving both training and scientific research purposes.

2. Advanced analytical equipment and high-tech equipment group

  • Ion chromatography (IC) system
  • Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) system
  • Microwave sample digestion device
  • Conventional centrifuges and refrigerated centrifuges
  • Analytical balances and microbalances with high accuracy

This is an important foundation for conducting research on environmental pollution, analyzing heavy metals, organic compounds, and trace pollutants.

3. Microbiological and environmental biology equipment group

  • Microbiological culture cabinet (sterile)
  • BOD Incubator
  • Colony detector and counter
  • Fluorescent lamp for counting microorganisms
  • Autoclave

These devices enable the full implementation of environmental microbiology experiments and water quality assessment using biological methods.

4. Equipment group for sample processing and technological experiments

  • Drying ovens and sample furnaces
  • Heated magnetic stirrer, multi-disc stirrer
  • Vortex mixer
  • Ultrasonic cleaning tank
  • Vacuum filtration system and membrane filter
  • Ultra-pure water filter

This group of equipment supports sample preparation, technological experiments, and environmental treatment research.

5. Air quality monitoring equipment group

  • PM₁₀ dust sampling station
  • PM₂.₅ dust sampling station, serving research and teaching on air pollution and urban environmental quality assessment. i.

The role of facilities in training and research

With its continuously improved facilities and laboratories, the Department of Environmental Engineering has the capacity to:

  • Providing practical, hands-on training for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Implement scientific research projects at all levels;
  • Conducting analysis, testing, and providing scientific and technological services in the environmental field;
  • Strengthen cooperation in research and technology transfer with agencies and businesses.
