Short-term postgraduate exchange scholarship at Kumamoto University, Japan, 2020

Kumamoto University announces the following information regarding the 2020 JASSO Foundation Scholarship Program for short-term postgraduate exchange:

The JASSO Scholarship Fund selected 13 candidates from partner schools. The study program begins on March 1, 2021 and ends in August 2021 (6-month term) or January 2022 (11-month term).

1. Program Content

  • Research project
  • Attend lectures (attendance is mandatory and a credit certificate issued by the Head of the Faculty of Science and Technology is required). A minimum of 3 classes related to environmental topics are required. Exchange students may attend all classes if permitted by their supervising professor.
  • Field trip
  • Final report
  • Midterm and final presentations

2. Scholarship Value

  • Monthly cost: 80,000 yen/month

3. Documents

  • Student Exchange Program Application Form ( Form 1 - according to the template - https://www.fast.kumamoto-u.ac.jp/gsst-en/special/ijep_for_jasso/ )
  • Registration certificate, including information about the expected completion time.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member or research supervisor to assess the applicant's qualifications and academic/research capabilities.
  • A notarized transcript in English including the overall GPA and ranking.
  • Language proficiency certificates: TOEFL-iBT 71; TOEFL-pBT 530, TOIEC 700; IELTS 6.0

4. Eligibility and Candidate Requirements

  • Applicants must ensure their academic results, when calculated using the Japanese grading scale, are above 2.30.
  • The candidate has a clear purpose and plan for studying in Japan.
  • Applicants may come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds or lack the financial means to participate in overseas exchange programs.
  • Candidates return to their university to continue their studies and receive their diplomas after completing the course in Japan.
  • Applicants must not have received a scholarship exceeding 80,000 yen per month from other scholarship funds.

5. Choosing a supervising teacher

  • Since the program requires a research project, applicants should research the department within the Faculty of Science and Technology that matches their major ( https://www.fast.kumamoto-u.ac.jp/en/home/ ).
  • Applicants should contact the professor before submitting their application.
  • If the applicant has contacted a member of the Faculty and obtained the approval of a supervising professor, this should be clearly stated in section 12 of the exchange program application form. If not, the applicant should find a supervising professor after receiving the scholarship.

6. Announce the results

  • Kumamoto High School will announce the results in mid-December 2020.

7. Scholarship duration

  • Scholarships start in March 2021 for a 6-month or 11-month term.

8. Scholarship payments

  • The scholarship funds will be disbursed into a personal account opened at a designated bank.

9. Final Report

  • Before the program concludes, candidates submit a “Final Report”. Upon completion, candidates will receive a certificate of completion.

10. Application deadline

  • Soft copy: October 30, 2020
  • Official documents (original copies) at the International Cooperation Department: November 12, 2020
  • Application deadline at Kumamoto University: November 20, 2020

  • Please submit the soft copy via email to minhdt@nuce.edu.vn . The soft copy will be sent to Kumamoto University for review and suggested revisions before the final application is submitted.
