Student Nguyen Thanh Dai, born on December 9, 1998, is from Moc Chau town, Son La province. He is currently a final-year student in the English-language Water and Environmental Engineering program 62MNE. Thanh Dai is well-liked by his teachers and friends not only for his diligent studies and high academic achievements in many semesters, but also for his active participation in student research activities.

Nguyen Thanh Dai - Class 62MNE (Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, English) - Faculty of Environmental Engineering - Hanoi University of Civil Engineering
What passion or fortunate circumstance led Thanh Dai to choose and pursue the field of Environmental Engineering?
I have a cousin who also studied Water Supply and Drainage Engineering (formerly known as Water Supply and Drainage) at the University of Construction, and he recommended it. Besides, the Water Supply and Drainage Engineering field offers many opportunities for personal development and high-quality training, so I decided to pursue it.
Knowing that Thanh Dai is among the top students in the Natural Sciences and Environmental Engineering major, could you share your study secrets and the challenges you overcame?
For me, the important and useful information in the curriculum is taught by the teachers in class, so I try to listen carefully, take thorough notes, and read additional materials that the teachers provide. I also look at some practical materials from water treatment plants because the engineering structures there are exactly the same as what the teachers teach.
The most difficult time was probably when I first started school, when I hadn't yet balanced my time between studying and schoolwork.
When Thành Đại first started university, he researched academic and career paths, and wondered how he could balance his studies and work.
I remember when I applied to the university, the professors and senior students gave me very detailed advice about the program. In addition, there was an introductory session and interaction between professors and students organized by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Environment. There, the professors and senior students gave me a lot of advice and guidance on my studies.
Regarding time management, I've always prioritized my studies. I created a time allocation plan for myself, balancing studying, leisure, and part-time work, and after a while, it became a habit.
Besides his studies, what other student activities has Thanh Dai participated in? And could Thanh Dai share some of the achievements he has accomplished over the years?
Besides classroom learning, I participate in extracurricular activities of the Water Engineering Club and take part in student scientific research activities guided by my professors.
During my years studying Construction, I also strived to receive the school's incentive scholarship each semester and once received a scholarship from Vietinbank.
During my participation in student scientific research, I worked on the project " Reusing construction waste in treating oil-contaminated wastewater" with Le Duc Manh, Bui Trung Hieu, Luong The Tan (61MNE), and Tran Thi Thanh Van (62MNE), under the guidance of Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen. Our group project won First Prize (Round 2, 2019-2020).

Professor Tran Cong Khanh, Professor Pham Duy Dong, Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen, and the student research group.
Thành Đại, could you share some tips with our readers on how to win scholarships?
- Regarding scholarship tips, I think you should focus on class sessions because there's a lot of information, and you should dedicate a small amount of time each day to reviewing it. This will help you remember things for longer, and when the exam approaches, reviewing and learning the knowledge will be much easier. As for the timeframe, you should dedicate 1 to 2 weeks to reviewing before the exam.
When taking an exam, you should sit in the front row because the questions and the teachers are usually a little easier.
Thành Đại, could you please share more about your journey in pursuing scientific research?
- During the scientific research process, I was quite fortunate to receive enthusiastic help and guidance from my teacher and senior students. I will start from theory and then run experimental models. I read information in books and articles to grasp the basic knowledge, and from there I will build practical models. My group worked on the issue of oil in wastewater following the teacher's instructions, and we built a filtration model and ran it daily to obtain real-world results. The most enjoyable part was when the model worked well, achieved positive output results, and we prepared a report to defend our group's results before the committee.

As an older student who has gone before, what message does Thanh Dai have for the 2003 graduating class as they embark on their university journey?
When students enter school, in addition to studying, they can participate in extracurricular activities and student volunteer teams, where they will interact with many older students and teachers. This is an opportunity for them to learn many experiences in their studies and daily lives.
BTT would like to thank Thanh Dai for taking the time to share your story. It has been a long journey filled with hard work and many beautiful memories. We wish Thanh Dai continued enthusiasm and success on his chosen path!
